want to use Realtek rtl8192e wireless on my computer system on which i have installed Ubuntu operating system. But the problem is that this wireless is not getting detected at all but wired one works fine. What could be the problem here and how do i solve it?

I have recently bought a Toshiba L505-S5990 which has a Realtek RTL8192E as a network card built in and the problem is that when i was using windows vista on this laptop then it was working perfectly but since when i have installed ubuntu on this laptop then this card is not at all getting recognized by my operating system. What should i do to make it recognized.

As you said that you were having windows vista on your computer previously which has been replaced by the ubuntu now then there are chances that your computer would be having some of the driver uninstalled improperly which might cause this kind of problem. It might also happen because of some mistake in ubuntu drivers as well.

I have 8192e wireless which works perfectly on my laptop with the ndiswrapper and i have installed windows xp drivers from the realtek’s official website. This laptop is running Linux Ubuntu operating system. I have first installed ndiswrapper from the synaptic package manager then downloaded an appropriate windows drivers. Then go to the System in ndiswrapper then anAdministration and click on the add driver and selected the downloaded windows driver here. Though i have got some errors but it is working now so i just neglected those errors.

This could be the problem of what version you are using on your computer as if you have installed 32 bit version of ubuntu or it is a 64 bit version. I would like to tell you that if you have installed a driver for 32 bit version on 64 bit system then they would not be supporting the device and even 64 bit drivers does not supports for the 32 bit version ubuntu. I think you have made this kind of mistake in your computer and as a result you are not getting your wireless Realtek rtl8192e detected on your computer.

I am using Realtek rtl8192e wireless on my Toshiba laptop and i did not got drivers for it on an official web site of toshiba. But i have found the driver on a Samsung web site which is working for this wireless device. But better solution which i have found is to get a Atheros AR982X.
